A 38-year-old Kailua-Kona man died early Thursday following a motorcycle crash Wednesday night at the Henry Street and Palani Road intersection in Kailua-Kona.

The victim has been identified as Caleb Wolfson, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Wolfson was reportedly operating an eastbound 2006 Yamaha motorcycle on Henry Street when he struck a concrete barrier and was ejected from the bike around 10:20 p.m., according to police. Wolfson was transported by medics to Kona Community Hospital where he died at 3:12 a.m. Thursday.

Police found a helmet at the scene of the crash but do not yet know if he was wearing it at the time. Police, however, indicated alcohol was likely a factor in the crash.

Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest case and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

This is the 11th traffic fatality this year, compared with seven at this time in 2011.
